Poetry: Down the Road
--
Down the road someone looks at you,
And you look back, unsure of what to say,
The person walks over, casually without a care,
And you're cautious,
Your mum told you not to talk to strangers,
Your daddy told you not to talk to boys,
Yet you open your mouth,
And words come out,
Your words tripping and stumbling,
And down the road,
No longer there,
He's in front of you,
He gives you that smile, a confident one,
Your mum's words run through your mind,
Your daddy's too,
But you take his hand,
You walk with him thinking it's all good,
And you're walking towards the sunset,
Towards the sunshine,
And you're happy,
You're high and giggly and so hopelessly in love,
Your mum hates him,
Your daddy doesn't trust him,
But you love him and life seems so perfect,
When he walks away,
Back down the road,
I'll let you know now,
Nothing is perfect,
Your love walked away,
Your heart is in pieces,
You can't tell the difference between reality and fantasy,
But that was only with him,
Everything's laid out,
All black and white,
Because you should've listened to them,
You should've listened to your mum,
And listened to your daddy,
Because they were right,
And you know that now,
Take this all in,
Remember how he walked away,
All the way down the road,
And remember how you were confused,
And despite how your mum and daddy,
Tried to tear the two of you apart,
They were right,
They love you more,
And will forever watch you back,
They won't walk down the road,
And leave you alone,
They'll love you forever,
A parent's love...
